We’re doing something different this week, and we’re doing a deep dive on newsletters.

The largest newsletter conference in the world was last week, and we figured now would be a good time for us to give our two cents on the newsletter industry as a whole.

To cut right to the chase, we think we’re in a newsletter bubble.

Thousands of people think that writing a newsletter is their path to “passive income”. That has led to low-quality publications popping up daily and asking for a piece of your attention.

On the other side of the coin, we have seen the upside of writing a newsletter over the past four years.

We have written thousands of words, built a brand, made money, and met interesting people all through this newsletter. We think that writing a newsletter is one of the most asymmetric bets you can make, but there are a lot of misconceptions about the job.

Here are a few things we wish we would have known earlier.
