Abha Nath (Investor @ Wonder Ventures)

What makes Southern California unique as a startup ecosystem, changing dynamics of evaluating teams virtually, and some red flags that scare investors away

Confluence.VC is a resource library and private community for venture and growth equity investors. Since launching, membership has grown to include:

923 members ๐Ÿ‘ฅ from 671 unique funds ๐Ÿ’ธ across 124 different cities ๐ŸŒŽ

Each week, we use this newsletter to highlight members that make up this community.

This week we had on Abha Nath of Wonder Ventures.

Wonder is an early-stage fund that aims to invest earlier than anyone else in Southern Californiaโ€™s best founders. Since its founding in 2015, the firm has invested in category-defining companies like Honey, Luxe, Joymode, and a number of others. Abha is the first and only hire at Wonder, and we wanted to have her on to dive into her unique path to where she is today.

In this talk, we discuss:

  • Abhaโ€™s journey to venture and how her previous roles at the Disney Accelerator and Ring prepared her to be an investor

  • What makes Southern California unique as a startup ecosystem

  • What has changed when evaluating early-stage companies virtually

  • Some red flags that make businesses un-investible

I love it ๐Ÿ˜ | Meh ๐Ÿ˜’ | This stinks ๐Ÿฅต

Thanks so much for reading! We began this initiative because of personal struggles we experienced while settling into venture roles, and we want to continue to make this newsletter a resource rather than a burden to your inbox.
