David Teten (Founding Partner @ Versatile VC)

Why investors are late adopters of new software, signaling risk when raising a fund via general solicitation, and thoughts on why seeking venture capital wrong for most

Confluence.VC is a resource library and private community for venture and growth equity investors. Since launching, membership has grown to include:

1,373 members ๐Ÿ‘ฅ from 966 unique funds ๐Ÿ’ธ across 147 different cities ๐ŸŒŽ

Each week in this newsletter, you will find:

๐Ÿ“Œ Curated roles from our job board focused on jobs in VC + at venture-backed startups
๐Ÿค Opportunities to back our syndicate and invest with this community of investors
๐Ÿง  Links and other helpful resources to make you a better thinker

This week we had on David Teten (@dteten) of Versatile VC.

Versatile is a different type of VC that focuses on capital-efficient startups.  Of the Inc. 5000 companies, only 6.5% raised money from VCs and 7.7% raised from angels. Versatile is VC for the other 93%.

David Teten is the founding partner of the fund. On top of running the day-to-day operations at Versatile, he has built a media network covering many aspects of venture capital. Check out his blog (https://teten.com/) and his resources on the tech stack of VC, https://pevctech.com/ .

In this talk, we discuss:

  • How members of our community can work with Versatile VC

  • Opportunities within the VC tech stack

  • How VCs can mitigate career risk for themselves and for people working for their companies

  • Diversity and VC

  • Parkour!

What did you think about this weekโ€™s newsletter?

I love it ๐Ÿ˜ | Meh ๐Ÿ˜’ | This stinks ๐Ÿฅต

Thanks so much for reading! We began this initiative because of personal struggles we experienced while settling into venture roles, and we want to continue to make this newsletter a resource instead of a burden to your inbox.
