Mike MacCombie (Director of Platform @ ff Venture Capital)

Mike's thoughts on his path into venture, launching communities, and why venture capital firms are shelling out more to build out their platform teams.

Clay and Tyler here. After some delay, we’re pumped to launch our first Confluence.VC Weekly newsletter.

We’ve had a lot of fun building out this community over the past two months, and we want to use this newsletter as a channel to recognize the members that make up this network.

For our first guest, we had Mike MacCombie who works as the Director of Platform of ffVC. Mike is a self-proclaimed “community geek”, and within his role at ffVC, he focuses on accelerating the growth of portfolio companies, spending most of his time on business development, founder best practice advisement, hiring, and later-stage fundraising. Outside of work, Mike acts as a mentor for Techstars NYC and Quake Capital, and he also authors the Investor G.A.N. Newsletter from ffVC.

In this talk, we ask Mike about:

  • his path into venture

  • why more firms are positioning themselves as platforms

  • his secrets on effective platform strategies
