📶 AI makes it easier for VC matchmaking
VCs are having an easier time connecting the dots, India unicorns are under pressure, and Insight makes a huge bet on cybersecurity
Good morning 👋
And Happy Friday.
I’ve learned that pretty much 99% of VCs fall within one of the following buckets:
Networker: Somebody who knows everybody and can source interesting deals consistently
Analyst: Somebody that does all of the investment dirty work to justify putting dollars to work in those deals
Operator: Somebody who can add hands-on support to portfolio companies after the check
AI tools have made it easier for each of these personas to do their jobs, but now networkers are getting creative with how they can use their network to play matchmaker.
Side note: Too many VCs try to be #1; not enough capable enough to be #2 or #3, but that’s a separate topic.
Let’s get into today’s piece.
TL;DR:

Few things can overcome superior positioning.
When you nail positioning, even on your worst day you're still 10000x better than the guy in 2nd place.
Don't even have to be that good.
The position is what matters, little else.
